Is it dead?
Is it dead?
Hi!
Far from it...
The project is very much alive and kicking behind the scenes!
We had a long summer vacation to recharge and redirect our lives and our minds... 🐬
And our secret project is almost done!
You won't find it on Development Progress though ( https://ilinuxos.com/updates.html ), hence the Secret Project... 😎
When we publish our Secret Project, we will resume with the development of iLinux OS Rolling.
But let us give you some hints about our Secret Linux Project, as a bonus:
It's blazing fast.
It fits on a 700 MB CD and can run fast from a CD.
You can run it from a USB stick too.
You can install it on any Hard Disk, external or internal.
It supports 64 Bit and 32 Bit computers.
It is based on Debian 12 Stable.
It is immutable.
It has the iLinux OS look and feel.
It is unlike anything you have ever seen for a Linux Distro that fits on a CD.
---
You have to understand that we are not a typical Development Team nor a typical Linux Distro.
We constantly innovate and experiment in secret, always pushing the boundaries to the far reaches of the unknown.
We create thoroughly tested free commercial grade products and we take our time doing it.
We do not use AI to mass produce crappy Linux Distros to flood out the competition and passionate independent developers.
We are not hooked by the frenzy of releasing a new Operating System every week, month or year, a frenzy that very often results in broken or inadequate Operating Systems with critical and/or hilarious bugs, Apple's macOS included...
We do not sell Website User/Visitor Data via Cookies to thousands capitalist companies like Linux Mafia Army does, and thus we do not need to click bait internet/linux users with a new Linux Distro every week, month or year...
We only talk when we have something to say and we rarely discuss or announce our critical/secret projects.
There are many parties that wish iLinux OS never existed, died or being abandoned.
To all those we say: You never saw us coming and we are here to stay. Deal with it.
To be fair though, most computers nowadays doesn't have a CD drive (and it's obsolete tech for good reasons). Its R/W speed is too damn slow (an old 5400RPM HDD will outperforms it), and there's no reason to use it when an USB is cheaper and got more capacity and variety. Unless you are going for preservation (which TBH you have FAR better options) there are no reasons to use a CD Drive, and that's not even talking about using it as boot drive.
“It is immutable.”
Nice! Immutable OSes are always good at least security-wise since the user won't be able to mess up their system without knowing exactly what they are doing. But please don't completely lock the system down (aka let the user make changes if desired) as that will just be obtrusive (ESPECIALLY if you need to install drivers and or a custom kernel). Or you can also bundle a container tool that is integrated well with the OS like Bazzite does and there you got it a perfect distro!
CDs have their use in certain environments where security is paramount.
Furthermore this version of iLinux OS will be able to expand the life and usability of old computers.

“But please don't completely lock the system down (aka let the user make changes if desired)”
The user will be able to make changes and save them.
