Why iLinux is not yet upgraded to Debian 11? What's taking you so long?
Why iLinux is not yet upgraded to Debian 11? What's taking you so long?
Operating System Stability is the #1 priority for us and we don't settle for anything less.
An Unstable Computer is a Useless Computer.
We prefer a slightly "older" Stable OS over a "newer" Unstable OS.
Without Stability the Computer Fails to execute the User's Commands and the User Experience Fails.
If the User Experience Fails, the Operating System Fails.
This for us is intolerable.
There is a difference between using Linux for fun or experimentation and using Linux to get work done.
Unstable or newly released Core Linux Distributions are not suitable for getting work done.
Typically a newly released Core Linux Distribution takes about 3-6 months to fully stabilize.
iLinux OS 3 with "Debian 11 Stable" will be released when it's fully tested and ready.
Until then enjoy the Fully Stable and Fully Functional iLinux OS 2 with "Debian 10 Stable".
"Debian 10 Stable" has Long Term Support until June 2024 from the Debian Development Team:
Do you need a specific feature that exists only in Debian 11?
Maybe we can help!
Debian 11 is fully stable a long time ago.
Some programs doesn't works on Debian 10 such as Darling, MCPI: Revival and a lot of OpenGL related programs.
I recommends you to upgrade soon, as because although Debian 10 is still in LTS and not discontinued yet, many programs has dropped support for it.
Debian 11 was initially released on August 14th 2021, so it can't be fully stable "a long time ago"...
Also, we quote from Debian website https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/ :
“Contrary to our wishes, there may be some problems that exist in the release, even though it is declared stable. We've made a list of the major known problems, and you can always report other issues to us.”
---
“many programs has dropped support for it”
Is there an online list?
Name some major programs that have dropped support for it.
We are not talking about very new applications that require Linux Kernel 5 to run, but for essential programs that the majority of Users use every day.

Have you ever developed a Linux Distribution or being involved in the development of a Linux Distribution?
“Have you ever developed a Linux Distribution or being involved in the development of a Linux Distribution?”
Yes, I was. I have participated in the development of a small and lightweight distribution called MassOS, which is built from source and not based on any core distributions.
https://massos.org/
It's goal is not the same as iLinux, but it's aiming to provide a lightweight experience without compromising on features.
“We are not talking about very new applications that require Linux Kernel 5 to run, but for essential programs that the majority of Users use every day.”
Yeah, Darling is a compatibility layer allowing running macOS application on Linux. It need some features from kernel 5.x, so I guess no hope for that. About others programs, I did ask the author and they said that Debian 10 comes with an extremely old versions of essentials libraries (OpenGL, Mesa, GLFW, etc). Also since I think not much users uses Debian 10 now, except embedded system or system need to maintain compatibility with old software.
“Debian 11 was initially released on August 14th 2021, so it can't be fully stable "a long time ago"...”
Well from my testing, it performs really well (even the latest Debian 12 Testing doesn't cause a single issue).
Since you have experience with development, you know that it takes time, especially with more complex Linux Distributions like iLinux OS.
iLinux OS 3 with "Debian 11 Stable" will be released when it's fully tested and ready.
Our Development Progress is public:
I don't need something specific. Just asking. Thanks for the reply.
“Also since I think not much users uses Debian 10 now, except embedded system or system need to maintain compatibility with old software.”
Do you have stats for that? A website I can look into maybe?
If I need something that runs on kernel 5 I 'll use another distro in parallel with iLinux since iLinux is one of a kind and suits me very well until now.
