A question for iLinux OS staff: Which is better? XAMPP https://www.apachefriends.org or iLinux Servers?
A question for iLinux OS staff: Which is better? XAMPP https://www.apachefriends.org or iLinux Servers?
They are different.
Instead of thinking in terms of "better than", think in terms of "what do Ι need to do", try them both and see which one is best for your needs.
XAMPP is installed in /opt/lampp/ and it installs standalone instances of servers.
This has the disadvantage of not being updated with the rest of the system.
I have tested XAMPP in iLinux before iLinux Servers were released and I found it outdated.
But you can try it as it does not interfere with the system.
If iLinux developers manage to crate a GUI for SQL/MariaDB/phpMyAdmin, iLinux Servers would be much better than XAMPP in my opinion.
I really like the idea of a server interface outside a browser and I agree with root. If iLinux stuff manage to crate a GUI for SQL/MariaDB/phpMyAdmin it would very interesting. Webmin is good but this servers interface is very simple. Any timeline on when SQL/MariaDB/phpMyAdmin will be released?
We hope really soon...
Installed XAMPP in iLinux. You were right. It's outdated. Not working. Plus there is no App in Application Finder after installation. I also noticed that there is a difference between Windows screenshots and Linux ones. Latest XAMPP on Linux has only 3 servers: Apache, ProFTPD and MySQL.
You saved me the time of testing XAMPP... :-) Let's hope iLinux developers will have this ready soon.
Apache Web Server > Virtual Hosts is very easy to use. You don't even need a guide because the interface guides you. There is nothing else like it in Google. And it's very good that per User web directories are active. Very useful. Very good and serious job even though it looks so simple.
I am really looking forward to SQL/MariaDB/phpMyAdmin GUI...
In today's 2.31 Live Update we introduce MariaDB SQL Server in our Servers Suite.
https://ilinuxos.com/servers-made-simple.html
Our future plans include the release of a Cloud Server and a Chat Server.
Impressive. You really listen to the users. You were not fooling around. 2 days was all you needed. I'm in IT business and we are trained to think of Terminal when it comes to servers but this is a real breakthrough.
Very good job on the SQL Server! phpMyAdmin loaded fine with no errors. The interface is very helpful as in the other servers and there is no need for the command line, at least for most tasks. What software you will use for the Cloud/Chat server?
“I'm in IT business and we are trained to think of Terminal when it comes to servers”
Terminal is useful but GUI is insanely great for the vast majority of users, even Administrators!
We design our GUIs with a User oriented philosophy.
We place ourselves in the position of the most novice User and start designing.
iLinux+MATE+Servers = Usability Bliss
OK. They did it again. What's next I wonder?! Servers is a wonderful suite of GUI apps surrounding MATE for administrators and mere mortals. I find them ridiculously simple and that's a huge plus! They just work, no fuss, no terminal, no banging your head to the wall. I am playing with servers now! Who would have guess? Not me I tell you! I think that level of usability in servers has never been seen before. I did a quick Google search and all I saw was Webmin (iLinux System Server) themes mostly. From a user standpoint servers are dead simple yet they do the job and teach you the basics about servers.
Check out any internet guide about linux servers then come to iLinux. It doesn't get any simpler than that... I am playing with servers now! Ha ha! Disco rules! My 2 cents...
The key to understand iLinux Servers lies in the About tab of "Servers" App: Power to the Users.
The cloud server you are developing, will it have user accounts? Is it any know software?
“The cloud server you are developing, will it have user accounts? Is it any known software?”
When it is released, you will see.
What I like about iLinux Servers window, is that beside the servers it has all those useful tools on the bottom. Anything you want to do relative to servers you can do it from one window. And it's not web-based unlike anything else in the market. I find it hard to go back to the terminal at work but I have to due to infrastructure...
Will you release "Servers" for other linux distros?
Why though?
"Servers" is a masterprice, if you release it for others Linux distro (meaning contributing to the community) you may help a lot of newbies administrator.
Also, I want to learn development too! What language did you use to make iLinux apps? Can you guide me how I can make mine?
We are contributing to the Linux Community by releasing iLinux OS and Servers for FREE.
We are helping newbies Administrators a lot by releasing iLinux OS and Servers for FREE.
We will never release "Servers" for other Linux distributions.
If you want to use "Servers" you must use iLinux OS.
We are not here to teach you Development.
We are here to offer unique and insanely great products which are insanely easy to use, for FREE.
We are here to increase the value of every Computer for FREE.
Very soon "Servers" will include a Public Cloud Server too...
Simple just use ldd {servers} it will show dependencies to some level and i guess the main executable is in /opt or /usr/share find it and pack it and vola you have your own servers it's not too hard just figure out the dependencies
Also by {servers} i mean the executable file
You can use that way, but only for private usage.

Why you avoiding my question?
“What language did you use to make iLinux apps?”
“Why you avoiding my question? What language did you use to make iLinux apps?”
We are not avoiding your question.
We are not answering your question.
“Increase the value of every computer for FREE”
That is the most dumbest thing I have ever heard.
“That is the most dumbest thing I have ever heard.”
is not a substantiated thesis based on arguments and analyzed facts.
Amateur insult attempts won't get you anywhere or trigger an emotional response from us.
In matters of technology we apply logic. Not emotion.
"We will never release "Servers" for other Linux distributions" That is litterally the opposite of helping

In today's System Live Update 2.33 we introduced two new Servers:
EzShare Public Cloud Server
Abyss Web Server
EzShare Public Cloud Server is very interesting. I was expecting something more complicated but it's very practical and fast for collaboration. A question: since there is Apache web server already in the system why a second web server (Abyss)?
“A question: since there is Apache web server already in the system why a second web server (Abyss)?”
1. Backup Web Server in case Apache does not work for some reason.
2. Abyss has a full Graphical Interface in contrast to Apache and it's easier for novice Users.
3. Due to it's Graphical Interface, Abyss is ideal for novice Users and Children to learn how a Web Server works.
4. Abyss can generate it's own SSL Certificates.
5. Abyss is completely Self-Contained, isolated and thus "Portable" and more secure under certain scenarios.
6. You can have Multiple Instances of Abyss running at the same time, in different Ports.
7. If needed, the configuration can be done via editing Text files, like Apache.
8. We have considerable experience with Abyss and we know it's capabilities.
“EzShare Public Cloud Server is very interesting. I was expecting something more complicated but it's very practical and fast for collaboration.”
EzShare Public Cloud Server has a particular use.
We are already experimenting on a "more complicated" Cloud.
Stay tuned!
@iLinux Suppoort Team
I haven't heard of Abyss before but from what you say it is worth exploring. When you say that you are experimenting on a "more complicated" Cloud, you mean it will replace EzShare?
“When you say that you are experimenting on a "more complicated" Cloud, you mean it will replace EzShare?”
No.
It will not replace EzShare Public Cloud Server.
They will both be available in iLinux OS.
It's wonderful to have more tools in the iLinux Servers window. All this is very progressive. The interface is really fantastic and you are very eclectic as to what servers you choose and how you merge them with the interface. How many servers do you plan to add to the servers suite?
“How many servers do you plan to add to the servers suite?”
Anything that is useful and lightweight.
All in good time.
Been playing with the two latest additions to Servers, EzShare and Abyss. As I said before don't let the happy icons fool you, we are talking about Tactical thinking here. Of course they're useful to all levels of users and especially to novices. EzShare Cloud is great for novice users. One double click and you have a cloud so easy you can't miss it.
In general I love the self-explanatory to the "No Manual Needed" level interface. That's really great even for techies.
Also the additions to the main Servers window are very practical and I really dig Traffic Monitor. The "fun" with Traffic Monitor is that you can see what is going on when you load a website. The amount of connections to servers that spy on you via cookies or "phone home" scripts is WTF OMG WTF amazing!
BTW my 2 Macs backup smooth as velvet to iLinux via Time Machine and File Server serves as Media/Streaming server to 6 devices cool...
@Dimitris
I too was expecting something more complicated for cloud server (login screen, multiple users etc.) but let's see what comes next...
That's not helping. You can't discover iLinux. The way Linux distros get discovered is by websites like DistroWatch. It is one of the most popular Linux related websites. I can't confirm if DistroWatch spies because I have a biased opinion and the security settings are restricted for people outside of Europe.
I find it ironic that your distro comes with proprietary software like Chrome and use Google, which is spyware. And you claim DistroWatch is a privacy nightmare.
Enough of all that, my point is that the distro barely has any users and it is not "discoverable". You blame the non-existent "Linux Mafia Army" for not showing your distro, but no one knows your distro because no one bothers searching "iLinux" for no reason and no one has made a blog about it. You have a YouTube channel to put videos related to iLinux, and I have seen comments from that channel. Like "iLinux is good for intermediate Linux users".
About "Servers", you are not helping anyone if you are going to make it exclusive to iLinux. You are "helping" if iLinux is popular, much smaller (not everyone has a fast wifi to download 14GB) and not everyone has a 64GB USB stick. You will claim that people will buy it and is cheap. However in certain countries USBs are expensive.
So you don't have anything to worry about.
If all this is causing you insomnia, it's not our problem.
If iLinux OS has no users and no one knows it, why do you bother?
Have a hot chocolate and sleep like a baby...
“The way Linux distros get discovered is by websites like DistroWatch.”

Judging by what I have seen until now in Servers, what comes next is a total mystery but an exciting one. ;-)
After 4 months of using Servers I can only say that it's the most awesome and easy server interface I have ever used. There is nothing even remotely like it anywhere in the internet, at least from what I have searched and I have searched a lot... The ease of use is unprecedented and the stability is epic. I can't thank the developers enough for this...
WTF is that?????!!!!!! No one uses gui for servers!!!!! It's unproductive and it goes against the industry!!!!!!!!!! Only terminal should be used for servers administration!!!!!!!!! This is a complete joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently there are people that actually use GUI for servers. It's just people that you don't know...
Why so much negativity?
Linux is about freedom of choice and respect...
last night I played with servers in ilinux. truth is I've tried servers in other distros some time ago but was discouraged due to lack of an overall interface. ilinux servers interface is awesome and very simple. the best in the market imo. fun fact: you don't even need to know command line to use them! |-D lmao!!!!!
